After two days of rain and waking up this morning to a cloudy grey sky, my thoughts were filled with despair as I believed it was again going to be an ” indoor day “… but to my surprise, the sun emerged and the grass dried up ūüôā Yippee !!! is all I could say… Come on little puppies, it is an “outdoor day”¬† day for you. As nice as it was today, the problem becomes that I sit outside, taking pictures and not getting ANYTHING done around the house. I once heard it said that having a litter of puppies is the like watching water run in the sink… it doesn’t get you anywhere nor do you get anything done… OH WELL… we had a good time and enjoyed the sunshine. bravo-flying-presto-behind

It has been so long !!

April 30, 2009

OK… so I haven’t quite kept up with this blog thing, but please excuse me as this is all new.

Now, Here is the latest :

Suzy had her puppies on February 26, 2009 via C-Section. She was in labor but we knew that she was unable to have the pups naturally, so we headed off to the vets where they were waiting with open arms for us … Everything went perfect and Suzy bounced back from the surgery with no problems and took to the litter like a perfect mother. She had 3 boys and 2 girls. As I write this, the puppy celebrate their9 week birthday and time has just flown by. This litter has been an easy litter with no complications at all… I am so grateful that we have 5 healthy happy puppies.

Cristina and I have been busy getting her ready for so many exciting things this summer. First the big news is that she is GRADUATING from High School a year early and has applied to the University Of¬† Northern Colorado, the same school as her brother. But before she can go, we have a trip to California planned with my good friend Pillan from Sweden for 10 days and then Cristina and Pillan will be heading back to Sweden…. without me ūüė¶¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† ~ They will have a great time and this will be so nice for Cristina to see Sweden with Pillan as her tour guide… I just hope she comes home.

At the same time Cristina is in Sweden, Mike and Dominic will be heading back to Alaska for some King Salmon fishing… yum !!! They had such a great time last year that Mike said it was time to go back . Dominic will need this time to unwind as he is just finishing up his first year of college. It was¬†an eye opening experience for him but I have seen him grow and mature and that is what it is all about. He did very well and has a full schedule for next year. He is still on track for Dental School as he is majoring in BIOLOGY… YUK !!¬† As Dominic would say, “you¬† gotta do, what you gotta do”.

I will try to keep this blog more up to date but sometimes life just doesn’t let me get to the things I want too.

Two of the puppies trying to see who is bigger !!

Waiting… is SO hard to do !

February 16, 2009

suzysomeone-help-me1As I sit here and look down at my little Suzy-Q trying to get comfortable, I realize that the time is drawing near for her to have these puppies. We have two weeks to go and she is miserable… grunting everytime she gets up and never seeming to get comfortable.

I have started getting the room ready for her, which included a complete dusting, vacuuming, and sanitizing base boards and tile floors. We have moved furniture around so that there is plenty of room for the whelping box. I thought it would be wise to bring Suzy up to see this all taking place so that she would start to get ready herself…. well, Suzy came into the room looked around like she approved of the furniture placement, ¬†looked to her left and saw the whelping box… the look of horror came over her face and she turned, as fast as a very pregnant girl could, and ran back down stairs. I don’t think she is ready ūüôā to say the least.

So the wait is on and the count down has begun. We are ready for the puppies, but I don’t think Suzy is as she knows the work that it is going to take to raise these little pups !

One more thing… HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY SUZY-Q !!

Suzy …

January 29, 2009

This past December we bred our girl CH. FoxHills Tibute To Bonawe, Suzy-Q , and Tuesday I found out that is is definitely pregnant. The vet looked at me during the ultrasound and said… “How many is TOO many”… my heart skipped a beat as I asked; “Well,¬†¬†how many do you think?”. In the typical doctor answer he informed me that an ultrasound is only 30% accurate and we can’t be for sure – blah, bah, blah… This vet has NEVER been wrong in the count of puppies unless one had not made it all the way, so I pushed him to “make a guess”. With a twinkle in his eye he said, “my guess is¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† 5 – 7 puppies “. ¬†Right then I thought someone had sucked all the oxygen out of the room… my poor little girl… her belly is going to be dragging on the ground before to long. Suzy is not a big girl, but she should have plenty of room for however many puppies there are.

After sharing the news with my friends, I wrote to my best “Swedish” friend Pillan and she told me about her girl that was about Suzy size who had two litters of 7 puppies, with NO problems. OH, I felt so much better. Now that this has sunk in, I started with the cleaning and preparation that I need to do. Yes, it is a month away, but we all now how time gets past us and before I know it Suzy will be letting me know that it’s time…¬† I have never had a litter bigger than 5 puppies, so I am hoping for 5 but if there is more, we will be up to our elbows in dogs around here !

Speaking of Suzy and puppies, I received a picture of Traveler who is a beautiful boy from Suzy’s last litter. He turned a year in November and is waiting for some coat so that he can start his show career… He is owned by Patrice Wills, Carinoch Cairns, and she tells me that he is a sweet, happy boy, just like both his parents !! I can not wait to sees them in the show ring and know that they will do great !

One more thing, I can’t¬†forget about Nelli, the Lab. She is starting her training this Saturday… THANK GOODNESS… let’s hope that she starts to realize that she is NOT a Cairn…

The weekend

January 26, 2009

The house was full again this weekend with Dominic home home from college. He has had a terrible cold and needed his “own bed” to sleep and get well. He looked and felt better by Sunday afternoon and as soon as the cookies were out of the oven, Dominic packed them up and back to the dorms he went.¬†Again the house seemed to be missing something… of course there are the dogs to fill the void.

It was a cold weekend and the dogs had to be inside for most of the time, so like small children they would find the path around the kitchen island and play chase. It is one thing when Cairns do this, but when you add a Lab puppy that is all legs and tail, things get crazy. Many times I had to put all the dogs away for “time out” as they drove me nuts. Then there is ¬†“little Nelli” (the Lab) who¬†has hit the stage were¬†she will eat ANYTHING… including my coat ! Yes, that’s right, she ate the lining of my coat. My fault,¬†as I had forgotten that she IS a Lab. I had laid¬†my coat¬†over her crate so that the next time I went outside I would have it handy.¬†Nelli pulled it through the wires of the crate and had a little snack. Thank goodness that Mike was right there¬†and stopped her before my entire coat was gone !¬† The Cairns watched this going on and looked at me as if to say, “We told you she was dumb !”… Let me say it this way, Nelli makes me realize just how smart Cairns really are… because a Carin would never do something in front of you or leave¬†the evidence behind.

Cristina has been going non stop every since she got her drivers license¬†and her¬†hand is always¬†out for some money¬† ūüôā She has been so excited to “have her freedom” and is so willing to go run the store for anything. We will start getting ready for the Denver Cluster Dog shows that are in February which includes Wednesdays conformation classes. I enjoy doing this with Cristina and I do know that this soon will be over for us. Once she is in college, I will be on my own for the shows. As much as Cristina thinks she won’t miss our time together, I know she will…

I sat and worked on my website almost ALL weekend. If you have never made a website, it is one of the most time consuming things to do. Thank goodness for my friend Pillan who is a website “master” who helped me “clean things up”. I do have a tendency to clutter the pages up so she reminded me to keep it simple… so after hours and hours of staring at the computer, two color changes,¬†countless font changes ¬†I finally had it done yesterday afternoon… AMEN ! I am¬†the kind of person that can’t stop once I start something until it is done… and thank goodness it is done !

We are going to have a cold week and a chance of more snow on the ground. So I am hoping to get some grooming done and figure out how to fix the lining of my favorite coat…

Have a good Monday !  Janet

What was I thinking???

January 22, 2009

I can not help but think of what this year has to offer. So many things are changing around me. Sometimes I think I am in slow motion and the world is going so fast. So, what does 2009 have in store for me ??

This is what I hope for : health and happiness for myself , my family and friends. I hope that I have a beautiful litter of puppies and a great time showing the young dogs that will be starting their show career. I hope to see my friends more this year. But most of all I hope that I can learn to be patient with myself and not rush into things… well at least I am going to try !

For those who haven’t heard, in a moment of insanity, I purchased a 6 month old Lab puppy for my husband. I seemed to have forgotten what a 6 month old Lab puppy is like… chewing on everything she can get her mouth on… Oh and being able to get up on the counter and eat whatever is within reach… WHAT WAS I THINKING ???¬† Well, what I was thinking it is a way for Mike and I to have something to do together… I combined his passion for hunting and mine for dogs. Next week we start her with her “bird training” so we’ll see how this goes… Oh, her name is Nelli for Mike’s favorite gun the Benelli shotgun… I am sure to be writing about her soon…

Things to come

January 15, 2009

Well today was the day to start getting things back in order here at home. It amazes me how much laundry piles up in just 5 short days. The washing machine and dryer hummed all day and I went to out to meet my son for lunch to talk about his new classes at UNC.

As I sat across form Dominic, I could only see that three year old little boy with the twinkle in his eyes…¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†

Where did the time go???¬†After daydreaming to a time of my life that I wish would return, I came back to the conversation which was¬†to do with Chemistry, I remembered that he is almost 19… Ouch ! It makes me realize that I have to continue to make every day count and live like it is the last.

After arriving home, Cristina reminded me that we needed to clean out her fathers car so that she can “Take it over” and Mike and I will “get” to share the suburban… When did she grow up??? Cristina turns 17 the end of February and is a stunning young woman. She plans on graduating from High School early – Fall 2009 – and already has plans for her future. What she doesn’t know is that in a blink of an eye her “future” will be here and gone …

It is now time for Mike and I to remember what we USE to do before these two wonderful people came into our lives… this may be the hardest thing that Mike and I have ever had to do…

We all have to look forward¬† for the “things to come”…

Time Passes So Quickly

January 13, 2009

As always, the days passed so quickly. Today is Tuesady and I had to say goodbye to¬† a very special friend…Pillan Klebo from Kennel Cairnstone who came to Colorado for a short visit. We had such a great time and we never stopped running around , doing as much as possible before¬†it was time to say good-bye … I am so, so sad but we will see each other again in June of this year…

While Pillan was here, we went to a Hockey Game at the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO (Avs won 5-3 against the Penguins) groomed a few dogs, groomed my dogs and went to see the sights of Fort Collins…. which of course included shopping !! Pillan had a trip to the dentist… and liked it !! One night we laughed so hard our cheeks felt like they would split open… we had so much fun !

It will be June 2009 until we see each other again which today seems so far away, but reality is that it will be here before we know it. I will wait for the snow to melt before I get excited for Pillan’s return visit… then we are off to¬†California for the Great Western Dog Shows in Long Beach¬†and¬†will make many stops to see¬†the “western” part of the US…¬†

¬†Until then my friend… I will miss you and we ALL wish you the best at CRUFTS !!!¬† ūüôā
